Mountain Mamas Music Monday - the late summer festival blitz

Hey Mamas!

We are in the final weeks of summer and festival season, so make sure you check out some of the amazing events coming up in August, including our Soloing Workshop with Bonnie Sims on August 24. Also, I’ll be at Song School next week (which is equally exciting and terrifying at this point - if any of y’all will be there, let me know!) — so our next update will be the following week.

Camp and Workshop News

In addition to Bonnie’s workshop in August, KC Groves will also be leading a workshop in September for beginning guitar players. Please pass along that info if you have any friends or family members who would like to start playing (or who may need to brush a few years of dust off of their guitar). KC’s workshop will be in the Denver area; we hope to have the location confirmed in the next week or so.

Also, Camp registration is now open! We’ve added a few more spaces this year, so join us (and bring a friend). Don’t forget when you register, to start looking at your lodging options as well - if you want that special themed room at the Berthoud Inn, make your reservation before someone else does. A few changes this time around:

  • We’ll have three groups that will rotate among the three core instructors, so you will get to have a class with each of the core teachers

  • We’ll have an afternoon elective on Saturday with Wendy Woo

  • Instead of a Women in Song performance on Saturday night, we’ll host a jam where you can try out some of the stuff you’ve learned earlier in the day

If you have any questions about Camp or one of the workshops, please let Kimberly and me know - send us an email at info@mountainmamasmusic.com.

Things to do

  • 8/8 Live eTown Radio Show Taping with Molly Tuttle & Special Guests (Boulder) - If you haven’t heard Molly play, it’s really something to see. I have my tickets for this one - let me know if you’re coming!

  • 8/8 - 8/11 Outdoor Theater: The Last Apple Tree (Westminster) The Catamounts (including our own Mountain Mama, Bonnie Sims) are pleased to present the world-premiere of The Last Apple Tree, an original, site-specific musical celebrating the legacy of one farm in this immersive, outdoor theater experience

  • 8/8 Shanna in a Dress plays the Cafe (Longmont) Shanna writes amazing songs that will make you laugh and cry and La Vita Bella Cafe is a lovely place for a show.

  • 8/8 Songwriter Hour @ Still Cellars (Longmont) If songwriting is your thing, check out this series hosted by Kyle Donovan. If you can’t make the live show, you can find the podcast wherever you get your podcasts.

  • 8/8 - 8/11 Yarmony Festival (Rio de Rancho, CO)

  • 8/9 - 8/11 Bohemian Nights at NewWestFest 2019 (Fort Collins) - We’re planning a Mountain Mamas excursion on Saturday night to see Bonnie Raitt, but you really can’t go wrong with any of the shows at this free festival

  • 8/9 Wood Belly at the Gold Hill Inn (Gold Hill)

  • 8/15 FREYA at OB Lyons! (Lyons) FREYA is a supergroup made up of Bonnie Sims (Bonnie & the Clydes), KC Groves (Uncle Earl), Erinn Peet Lukes (Thunder & Rain) and Natalie Padilla (Masontown). They combine their powers for the good of country, bluegrass, folk, and the world. Don’t miss this one!

  • 8/16 - 8/18 29th Rocky Mountain Folks Festival @ Planet Bluegrass (Lyons)

  • 8/24 Soloing Workshop with Bonnie Sims @ Wildfire Arts (Berthoud)

Have a great week everyone!
