Mountain Mamas Music Monday - the dandelion edition
Good morning, Mamas!
This has been a challenging week around the country, especially in my home region of the South, but among all of the darkness, there are still patches of hope and pockets of good. This morning’s post from one of my friends helped me, so I’m sharing it here with you:
It's kinda been a tough week for folks trying to make a better South. I've been trying to remind myself that love and compassion are stubborn weeds, and like the dandelion pop up with the slightest bit of sun. They're a little bitter, too.
Ok, now back to our regularly scheduled programming...
Last week, Kimberly and I had a great planning / brainstorming meeting for Mountain Mamas and we’re really excited about what the future holds. We have lots of ideas on the table, but we’d also love to hear from you about what you’re interested in - workshop topics, different locations (in Colorado and elsewhere), study and practice materials, etc. Shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know what you’re thinking!
One more update, we’ve rescheduled our August workshop - Soloing with Bonnie Sims - to one week earlier. It’ll now be on August 24 instead of August 31. We’ll be opening up registration in the next few weeks, so stay tuned for that.
What We‘re Reading
Celebrating 110 Years of Maybelle Carter (No Depression)
You Do Not Have to Be Good (Austin Kleon) - A great meditation on creativity and our role (and responsibility) to pay attention. I also liked this quote from Mary Oliver:
What We’re Watching (or Will Be)
County Music by Ken Burns (PBS) - I certainly haven’t made it through all of Ken Burns’ films, but I do know that when he decides to tackle a topic, he really goes after it. I can’t wait to see this one coming out in September. Do we need to have a Mountain Mamas viewing party or two? (Check this out, too.)
5/25 - Old Fuss & Feathers @ Zuni Street Brewing (Denver)
5/25 - Goatz! @ Coal Mine Ave Brewing (Littleton)
6/13 - The Lonesome Days @ Bluebird Theater (Denver) - This is the vinyl release show for our friends at The Lonesome Days. I’ll be at this one with a few of our Mamas. If you want to join us, let me know and we’ll save you a spot.
6/15 - Avenhart w/TAARKA, Ley Line, Hazel Hue, and Emery Adeline @ Cervantes (Denver) - This is going to be an amazing show with some power-house ladies. Who’s coming with me?
Stay warm and dry out there, folks!
