Mountain Mamas Music Monday... the Creative Edition
The most regretful people on earth are those who felt the call to creative work, who felt their own creative power restive and uprising, and gave to it neither power nor time. - Mary Oliver, Of Power and Time
Good morning, Mamas!
In case you missed the announcement, we're so excited to let you know that our first Mountain Mamas' one-day workshop - Strumming and Theory with Monica LaBonte - has been scheduled for Saturday, May 4. Check out the details on our website, sign up, and tell your friends! As always, please let us know if you have an idea for a camp class or workshop topic. You can reach Kimberly and me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What We're Reading
This week I've been thinking about focus, connection, and creativity. I recently started Mary Oliver's book of essays, Upstream, and discovered a whole entry around the creative process, priorities, and time. (If you're searching for words, find a poet, right?)
In creative work - creative work of all kinds - those who are the worlds working artists are not trying to help the world go round, but forward.
A related quick read is "How Disconnection Boosts Your Creativity" by Austin Kleon:
Our modern world of push notifications, 24/7 news cycles, and constant contact is almost completely inhospitable to the kind of retreat artists must make in order to focus deeply on their work.
What We're Listening to
Free Range Marmot (featuring Mountain Mamas' camper, Pam) released some new music from their new EP last week.
What We're Watching
If you haven't seen it already, definitely check out Bonnie and the Clydes, "Hold on Me"! So much fun!
Grace Constable tribute to Tony Rice (John Lawless, Bluegrass Today) - In memory of Preston Thompson, a wonderful guitar builder who passed away last week, here's a clip of a young bluegrass artist doing a great rendition of Church Street Blues (on her Preston Thompson guitar)
That's it for now. Remember to make some time for yourself this week - get some practice in, go to a jam, play music with your friends. Be inspired and inspiring. Have a great week!
