Mountain Mamas Music Monday -the late summer edition
Good morning, Mamas!
After a bit of travel this summer, it's good to be back home for awhile and enjoy the last bit of summer before everything starts getting busy again in the fall. I loved seeing everyone's pictures at Rockygrass and hope those of you that were able to attend got some picking in between all of the wonderful performances. Maybe we can get our own Mountain Mamas picking circle going next year!
Camp and Workshop Updates
8/24 - Soloing Workshop with Bonnie Sims (Berthoud). This one's filling up fast, so if you're interested please go ahead and sign up.
9/21 - Guitar for Beginners Workshop with KC Groves (location TBD, but probably Denver metro). If you have friends or family members who would like to learn to play guitar, or who haven't played in awhile and want to brush up on the basics, then please let them know about this workshop with KC.
10/4-10/6 - Mountain Mamas Music Camp (Berthoud). Registration will be open on 8/1 - yay!
Things to Do
8/8 - Molly Tuttle @ eTown (Boulder). I have my tickets already and you should come too. If you've never seen Molly play, it's something to behold.
8/9 - 8/11 - Bohemian Nights New West Fest (Fort Collins). An amazing (and free) music festival in downtown Fort Collins. I know we'll already have a few Mountain Mamas coming up to see Bonnie Raitt on Saturday, so please join us!
8/15 - FREYA! @ Oskar Blues (Lyons). Freya is a supergroup made up of Bonnie Sims (Bonnie & The Clydes), KC Groves (Uncle Earl), Erinn Peet Lukes (Thunder and Rain) and Natalie Padilla (Masontown). They combine their powers for the good of country, bluegrass, folk and the world.
What to Watch
In this edition of The Root, Bill Evans shows us how to read and understand standard bluegrass chord progressions, a key tool for playing in jams where you might not know every song that's called.
It's definitely been a Highwomen weekend with the release of their second song and a performance at the Newport Folk Festival. Check out this clip of them with Dolly on her song "Eagle When She Flies".
For some fun summer groovin', check out the latest solo single from Brittany Howard (lead singer of the Alabama Shakes). Brittany Howard - Stay High (Official Video)
Have a great week, y'all!
